The History

1310 – 1882
The Rinuccini family

Already present in the ancient images that depict the estate, they are believed to have been built before the seventeenth century and therefore before the villa itself was built. It was the Padoa family, who took possession of them at the beginning of the 19th century, who undertook the renovation, leaving the insignia still present as a reminder of the work they had completed.

1882 – 1935
The Padoa family

In 1882 Leone Emilio Padoa bought Torre a Cona and the following year he began renovating the winery and the agricultural annexes with the aim of modernising the agricultural methods.

1935 – oggi
The Rossi di Montelera family

Napoleone Rossi di Montelera bought Torre a Cona in 1935. The family owned Martini & Rossi, a world-famous wine and spirits company. The company was started by grandfather Luigi (1828-1892), who came to Turin from the countryside without a penny and quickly became an expert liqueur maker and entrepreneur.

The family passion for winemaking continued from generation to generation.

With Lorenzo Rossi di Montelera, son of Napoleone, investments were renewed. The first step was towards systems with more up-to-date techniques. Alongside the old vines, the most suitable Sangiovese clones were chosen for the type of soil and microclimate of this area. The aim was to improve the quality of the product, with the help of a team of experts who followed every phase from the field to the winery

Today

Now that the company is run by the new generation – represented by Ludovica, Niccolò and Leonardo – every wine produced, from Chianti Colli Fiorentini to the selections of Chianti from single vineyards, to the single varietals Merlot and Colorino and the different versions of Vin Santo, faithfully represents the peculiarities of a micro-zone unique in the panorama of Tuscan viticulture.
